(formerly Cowpernican aVocations: Musings of a Technologically Enthusiastic Learning Leader)
Principal learner and instructional leader in the Ontario Public School system, Kingsville Public School. Forward and creative thinker in forward and creative district. Students are at the center of my professional life and define the core of my beliefs, values and understandings. I am constantly engaging in new learning. I learn in the garden with my wife and children, soccer pitch with close friends, at the computer using communication technology or sitting in circle with other professionals in a Critical Friends Group. I learn from my son and daughter everyday as much as I do in formal settings. I take my perspective and experiences as a father and use it at the student success meeting, the professional learning community meeting and certainly on the school yard. My blog has evolved into an expression of the harmony between my work and my personal life.
I am currently the Principal of Kingsville Public School in Essex County, Ontario where I cultivate a culture of shared learning and leading through PLCs and technology integration. In my recent past, as the Lead Learner of Eastwood Public school, we saw major gains in student achievement across all 6 markers over 5 years of learning work.
I have been in elementary school administration since 2003. As a lead learner I continue to attempt to inspire the students, educators and parents that I work with through my enthusiasm for learning and positive energy. I draw on my experiences as a teacher, student, leader, and most definitely as a father, to guide my practise. As a Learning Forward Academy Class graduate (2011) I have worked with innovative thinkers and learners world wide. Currently I am learning towards my Masters in International School Leadership through Charles Sturt University. Above all else my decisions are focused on one aspect of school life, what is best for the kids. To serve the school community I espouse and cultivate the four tenets of excellent leadership: Trust, Kindness, Intention and Authenticity. Follow my learning journey on Twitter @cowpernicus.
